NORTHERN YOSEMITE TRAIL RIDE
TUOLUMNE MEADOWS TO LEAVITT MEADOWS

Please note: The itinerary could change to start at Virginia Lakes if we are unable to get a wilderness permit in the lottery.

Day 1: Tuolumne Meadows to Cold Canyon 9 miles

We ride north on the Pacific Crest Trail from the largest meadows in Yosemite. The trail follows the Lyell Fork of the Tuolomne River. The cascades and water falls as we head to Glen Aulin make this one of the most scenic rides in the Sierra. Heading north on the PCT camp is in the beautiful meadows of Cold Canyon .



Day 2: Cold Canyon to Matterhorn Canyon 11 miles

The morning ride goes through meadows and alternating forest before we switchback through the Hemlock Forest to reach Virginia Canyon. We travel through wildflowers, meadows and small lakes before reaching the deep Matterhorn Canyon. The deep granite canyon has beautiful campsites.



Day 3: Layover

Ride up canyon through the meadows to Burro Pass. Expansive views of the Sawtooth Ridge.

Day 4: Matterhorn Canyon to Benson Lake 10 miles

This remote part of Yosemite has beautiful vistas of glacial polished mountains, lush meadows and wildflowers. We climb to the top of Benson Pass and meander down to Smedberg Lake. Volunteer Peak frames the panoramic view to the west. Riders descend to Benson Lake. Called the Riviera of the Sierra for the largest sand beach in Yosemite.



Day 5: Benson Lake to Kerrick Canyon Camp 9 miles

Riders ascend 1,400 ft to climb over Seavey Pass before dropping into Kerrick Meadows. View the wide and scenic Kerrick Meadows before heading down Rancheria Creek for camp at Lower Kerrick.

Day 6: Kerrick Canyon Camp to Tilden Lake

This is a challenging and remote section of the High Sierra. Riders descend to Stubblefield Canyon before climbing up towards Tilden lake.

Day 7:LAYOVER

Enjoy the tranquility of Tilden Lake.

Day 8: Tilden Lake to Dorothy Lake 7 miles

The trail follows Falls Creek through the vast Grace Meadow.

Day 9: Dorothy Lake to Lower Piute Meadow 8 miles

Riders head down through forests and meadows passing several lakes before meeting the West Fork of the West Walker River. This part of the Hoover Wilderness.



Day 10: Lower Piute Meadow to Leavitt Meadow 9 miles

It is a beautiful ride through the magnificent Piute Meadows at the foot of Tower Peak. As the route follows the West Walker River you will travel through the meadows interspersed with pine forests and aspen.

FEES:
All Trail Rides and Packing Schools are subject to a 2% USFS fee.
Horse Drives are are subject to a 3% USFS fee.
Mustang Trips are are subject to a 3% USFS fee.
Trips traveling in Yosemite National Park are subject to an additional 3% park use fee.
Trips traveling in the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks are subject to an additional 3% park use fee.
Permits and permit monitoring fees are applied per person for trips. Permits are issued from the commercial allocation.

Rock Creek Pack Station, Inc operates under permit on the Inyo National Forest.
